Dr Elizabeth Hotham (Grant)

Dr Elizabeth (Libby) Hotham was born in 1948 in Rockhampton to parents, Colin and Dorothy Grant. She has a brother Hugh and sisters Barbara and Susan. Her primary education was at the former Central Girls’ School and the Rockhampton Girls’ Grammar School. She was Dux of the school in 1965.
In 1966, she commenced her Bachelor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Queensland and resided at The Women’s College. In her third and final year, she was Secretary of the College Council. She was joint top achiever in the first year of the degree and top achiever in the final year.
After graduation, Elizabeth worked at Row & Co and the AFS community pharmacies in Rockhampton and married Neil Hotham in 1971. They moved to South Australia in 1975 and Elizabeth worked for the National Pharmacies from then until March 1976 when she commenced work as a Hospital Pharmacist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
In the late 80s, following the birth of two children, she returned to community pharmacy, working in a part-time capacity at several pharmacies and later, at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. From 1992, this work was combined with a part-time lecturing position with TAFE SA.
Following completion of her Masters degree ( 2001), Elizabeth worked as a part-time public health research officer at both Flinders University and the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, while continuing part-time work in the hospital’s Pharmacy Department. She commenced full-time employment at the University of South Australia in late 2002, and commenced a PhD half-time in 2005, graduating in 2010. Elizabeth retired from full-time work in 2018. She now holds an adjunct position at UniSA.
